Our Story

Crème started as a cupcake shop in Des Moines in 2010 providing over 36 cupcake varieties. Since then, they have expanded their menu to include custom cakes, cookies and other treats, available both in the store and for catered events. One of the biggest features has been the evening dessert lounge, offering specialty desserts and cocktails after 5pm.
From a dozen cupcakes for a single order to 2,100 desserts for the Vice President of China, more and more people around are turning to Crème to find a way to satisfy their sweet tooth…and find their own joy.

After working for 10 years in corporate U.S.A., Christina decided she was tired of seeing people with no happiness in their day. Her mission became to find what makes people happy. The answer, she discovered, is cupcakes and dessert. A baker since she could hold a measuring spoon, Christina combined her culinary skills with her management and marketing experience to create Crème Cupcake + Dessert, which expanded from a home-operated bakery to a commercial kitchen in less than a year.

A graduate of DMACC, Iowa State University and University of Toledo CBA Program, Christina not only owns and operates Crème Cupcake + Dessert, and serves as the Director of Small Business Resources for the Greater Des Moines Partnership.  She also devotes her time and talents to many local boards.  Christina has won several awards for her business including DSM Top List for Best Bakery, Cityview’s Best Dessert, Sweet Equality Best Dessert, Runner up for the Iowa Mixology Competition and runner up on The Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. Christina has also been featured in Pastry & Baking North America in the Regional Showcase and Baker in Focus. Christina is also a Business Record’s 40 Under Forty, 2012 Deb Dalziel Woman Entrepreneur Achievement Award Winner by the Iowa Small Business Development Center for the State of Iowa, 2013 Woman of the Year by the Metro Women’s Network, 2015 Women Business Owner of the Year by NAWBO Iowa, 2016 Finalist for Iowa Women Entrepreneurial Innovation and Leadership Award by Technology Association of Iowa, 2017 Outstanding Alumni of the Year by DMACC, 2018 Ivy Women in Business Inspiration Award by Iowa State University and 2018 GDMLI Distinguished Leaders Community Vision Inspiration Award.

Holly Hintz is the General Manager and Pastry Chef of Crème Cupcake, leading daily operations and menu development. She received a degree at the Culinary Institute of America in New York and then worked on the East Coast and in France returning to Des Moines to work in several local restaurants and bakeries. In 2011 Holly met Christina Moffatt, owner of Crème Cupcake and soon became a key member of the Crème Cupcake crew and was instrumental in helping take the now iconic Des Moines bakery from a tiny catering operation to the standard-bearer dessert lounge it is today.

Head Cake Decorator and Wedding Coordinator

Whitney Peter is the Head Cake Decorator and Wedding Coordinator at Crème. She works closely with guests and couples to insure that they get the cake of their dreams! Whitney grew up painting, sculpting and hosting backyard cooking shows, and attended Iowa State University for Art and Design.  She joined Crème in 2016 as Night Manager of the dessert lounge, all the while honing her exceptional cake decorating skills during the quiet times, as well as leading cupcake decorating classes.  She was promoted to Head Decorator in 2018 and is a driving force behind Crème leading the charge in high-end elegant cakes.

Head Baker

Taylor Weiss is the Head Baker at Crème. She is responsible for the daily productions of cupcakes, cakes, cookies, bars, truffles and any other goodies you see in the case.  She has always enjoyed creating things that are beautiful and delicious. Taylor graduated from the Iowa Culinary Institute, and following an internship in France, returned to Des Moines to work at Crème.  She started as a cupcake decorator, and in 2017 was promoted to Head Baker. Taylor says the best thing about working at Crème is the freedom to challenge her skills and always keep learning!
